Microsoft Back in the Hardware Game With Surface Go?
A strange feeling came across me today, I am tempted to buy a Microsoft product. The last time I actually paid cash was for a copy of Windows Vista! Since then, I’ve ditched Windows 10 that came with my last HP PC for a copy of Windows 7, that’s how much Microsoft’s recent efforts have passed me by.
I haven’t been tempted to own a piece of Microsoft hardware since the early Surface models. Xbox One came across like a marketing disaster, and I was lucky enough to win a Nintendo Switch, which better suits my family.
Surface Books are priced way out of my league for Word jockeying. At least the Zune, way way back, had some curious features. But since then, nothing Microsoft has produced has tempted me, which is pretty damning for a ludicrously rich, high-end company.

However, Surface Go is a different matter. My old iPad with a dead battery lies unused, and I don’t want a new one. My laptop is a little bulky and my iPhone too small for reasonable use.
So, how about a $399 hybrid Surface Go? Good price, guessing it’ll be £399, fair power and battery, decent productivity use and as light as a feather. Windows 10 S sounds like the one nasty glitch, along with those feeble processors, unable to run non Windows-Store apps and anything processor-hungry, but I’m not too worried at that price.
Something else that puts me off Microsoft products is the horrendous “lifestyle” marketing… “I’m an independent woman, raised by sea otters, and editing this photo makes me millions as a I search for validation while remaining firmly independent!” and other rubbish.
Hopefully, Microsoft will take an every-person approach for the Surface Go. “This is my Surface”… road repair worker, astroturf layer, kid’s ball-pit playpark attendant, golf green keeper, forestry worker, fisherman. “And this is how I do my xxx (letter writing, browsing, online banking, picture editing). Surface Go!”
